Evaluation of Teaching
The Student Opinion of Teaching Questionnaires are administered for those faculty, instructors, and teaching assistants who request a survey through the online request portal by the deadline for each term. The portal can be accessed by clicking on "Request a Survey" on the home page and logging on to my.pitt.edu.
All instructors—whether teaching a class, lab, or recitation—have to individually request an evaluation.
Questionnaires have been developed in conjunction with faculty in the various schools of the University.
Proctors who are hired and trained by OMET administer the surveys. The instructor is not in the room when the survey is being completed by the students. Surveys are scheduled in the order that they are requested in the portal; early submissions are more likely to be assigned the first choice of survey date. More than 3,000 surveys need to be scheduled and processed, so complete yours promptly. If you are teaching an online class you still will need to complete a survey form.
OMET reports results to instructors several weeks after the end of the term. It is essential that final grades have been turned into the Registrar's office before results are received. Additional release of the quantitative results by OMET must be authorized in writing by the instructor. The exception to this is when a policy of releasing the quantitative results to another person (chair, dean) has been established by the faculty and administration of a particular school of the University and reported in writing to OMET.
To check out the list of additional items go to OMET's homepage and click on Additional Items Bank.
Results will be sent electronically after final grades have been submitted to the Registrar's office. Fall and spring term results will be sent the first week of the following term. Summer results will be sent after final grades are posted.
