Both computer -based and paper- and -pencil admission and certification tests are administered by the Office of Measurement and Evaluation for students of the University of Pittsburgh and other community residents.

In addition to the tests listed, the center also offers a proctored test environment for other exams as well. Many students who are enrolled in distance learning programs are welcome to have their exams administered at the test center. Many other certification exams are also offered.

We suggest registering at least two weeks prior to desired date. For Saturday dates, please register at least one month prior to desired date.

Please arrive 30 minutes before exam time for check in and processing.

Please have valid identification with you.

*During October, November, and December, more evening sessions are opened to accommodate the large number of test takers.

Registration and Information

A general overview of each test is given below. To obtain more information click on the link and you will be directed to their website. Valid identification is required of all testers; please check individual websites for ID requirements.

GRE

The GRE General test is administered to prospective graduate students. The test measures verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, critical thinking and analytical writing skills not related to a specific field of study. Many schools use the scores to supplement undergraduate records and qualifications for admission.

PRAXIS I

The Praxis I ® Tests measure basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. The Praxis I ® test is offered both by computer and paper-and-pencil.
The Praxis II® subject tests measure subject-specific knowledge and teaching skills. Information about state licensing requirements can be found on the Praxis website www.ets.org/praxis/ and by contacting the state or agency directly.

PRAXIS II ® subject tests are given on national test dates, check the website for registration dates and deadlines. www.ets.org/praxis/

TOEFL

The Test of English as a Foreign Language is used to measure the ability of non-native speakers of English to communicate in a college or university setting. Many academic institutions use the scores to determine eligibility for admission.
Valid passport required.

MCAT

The Medical College Admission Test is a standardized, multiple-choice examination designed to assess knowledge of science concepts and principles prerequisite to the study of medicine, and problem solving, critical thinking, and writing skills. Most medical schools require MCAT exam scores as part of their admission process.

CLEP ®

The College Level Examination Program ® allows you to receive college credit for knowledge you have gained through independent study, work experience, and prior course study. There are 34 examinations covering many subjects available to test in.

MAT

The Millers Analogy Test is an hour-long test that measures aptitude in verbal comprehension and analytical thinking through the solution of problems stated as analogies. The MAT is an option for candidates applying to some graduate programs.

DSST (formerly Dantes)

College credits are available in 37 subjects. Colleges, universities, and corporations use DSSTs to measure knowledge in a particular subject area. Each establishment determines its passing scores for each DSST.
